When you think of the Term, "The Word of God" do you think of the Scriptures or the Scriptures that point to Him who is called the Word of God? Our first reaction is the former. We often think of the Word of God as the Scriptures only. In doing so, we mistake the Scriptures to be Christ instead of actually coming to Christ in prayer and allowing the scriptures to point us to him.
In John 5:37-40 Jesus said, "the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time nor seen His form. But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
The Word of Life is a Person. He is Jesus. The scriptures point to Him. We cannot make the mistake that the Pharisees made. They knew God's word but they did not know The Word of God. They recited the words of God but missed The Word of God directly in front of them. The Scriptures point us to The Word of Life, Jesus Christ.
The Scriptures testify and point to Him, Jesus still echos throughout the ages "Come to Me." Are you willing to come to Him so that you may have life? The first key to an uncommon spiritual life is that we come to the person of Christ daily. Coming to Christ daily is partaking of the Word of Life.
THE WORD OF LIFE WILL CAUSE THE SCRIPTURES TO COME ALIVE
As we come to Him in attentive prayer, He causes the very scriptures that we read with Him to come to life with His very own breath and presence. This is the way that he often speaks into our spirit so we can receive the things we ask for when we abide in Christ. He wants to take the pages of the scriptures and breathe into it so we can freely receive all that He desires for us. And every word he speaks to us through the agency of the meditated scriptures with Him will bring about life healing and nourishment to our spirits.
John 15:7 brings this out so beautifully, "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you"
Notice what Jesus tells us if we abide in Him and His "words" abide in us we can ask what we desire of Him. The word for "words" used in John 15: 7 is the Greek word Rhema, which means an utterance or a spoken word. What Jesus is saying is that if we abide in Him and His utterance what He is saying to us abide in us we can have what we desire. This implies direct fellowship. How can we hear what he wants to speak to us in our communion with Him if we do not abide with Him?
THE WORD OF LIFE & OUR INTIMATE UNION WITH HIM
In Christ is Life! Christ, Himself is Eternal Life. He simply wants us to come to Him in daily fellowship.
1 Corinthians 1: 9 says "'God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord."
You and I are called to fellowship with Christ. That word fellowship means to partner, to commune with. To commune is to share with one's intimate thoughts and or feelings. This is what we have been called to! To share in the intimate thoughts & feelings of Christ! This is what the fellowship of Christ is! It is the mutual share of intimacy between you and Christ and Christ and you. Out of this sweet intimate relational fellowship with Him we grow in our personal union with Him. This is what it truly means to abide in Him. We must come to Him The Word of Life. As we do this, we can truly say that which we have touched and seen, we proclaim to you! We preach him out of our direct communion with him and so become the light of the world & testify to the world out of the place of knowing Him.

This is a beautiful read. This has been the biggest struggle of my Christian walk...to understand what abiding actually is and what it looks like and to do it. I've spent hours & hours in quiet time & worship & prayer etc but still never really got it. Will listen to the teaching next. Thank you 💖
