The Humble Mind of Christ

There’s a call in Scripture that always humbles me: “Let this same attitude and purpose and humble mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus.”
Let’s just pause for a moment and take that in. The Bible isn’t just calling us to admire Christ’s humility—it’s asking us to adopt it. To live it. To let it reshape our thoughts, our motives, our posture.
Jesus was fully God and fully man. He wasn’t a lesser version of God—He is God. The Scripture says He was “essentially one with God and in the form of God,” possessing the fullness of all divine attributes. And yet, He didn’t cling to that equality. He didn’t grasp or exploit His divine rights.
Instead—He emptied Himself.
Theologians call this kenosis. It means “self-emptying.” Christ voluntarily laid down His privileges and took on the form of a servant—a slave. God became low, so we could be lifted up.
That wrecks me in the best way. It shows me that real strength isn’t found in position or power—it’s found in surrender. And if He, being God, humbled Himself… how much more should we?
Today, I want to encourage you: choose the humble way. Let the same attitude that was in Christ Jesus dwell in you richly. Don’t cling to your rights. Instead, walk in love. Walk in service. Walk in surrender.
