When You Don't Know How to Pray

There are moments in life when words fail. When the weight of our situation is too heavy, and we find ourselves unsure of what or how to pray. If you've ever been there — you're not alone.
Even the Apostle Paul, a powerhouse of prayer, acknowledged this human limitation. He wrote,
“For we do not know what prayer to offer nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication and pleads on our behalf with unspeakable yearnings and groanings too deep for utterance.” (Romans 8:26)
What a gift — the Holy Spirit steps in for us. He doesn’t stand at a distance. He meets us in the moment of our weakness, in the not knowing, in the silence.
This is where prayer truly begins — at the end of ourselves.
I've learned that the most powerful prayers are often born not from polished words, but from a posture of surrender. A simple, “Lord, I don’t know what to say, but I give myself to You,” is enough. From that place, the Spirit leads. He illuminates what to say, how to cry out, and even when to simply sit in His presence.
Prayer is participation — not performance. It’s communion with a Person. And as we show up, praise, and make ourselves available, He meets us.
So if you're feeling unsure of how to pray today, be encouraged: you don’t have to figure it out alone. Just show up. He will meet you.
